Superb Chinese export teabowl / cup and saucer, circa 1770-1790.

Hand painted in an oval frame "A.Clifford".

Probably for Anne Clifford, wife of Hugh Clifford , 4th Baron,  of Ugbrooke House, Devon.

Or Arthur Clifford, antiquary, grandson of Hugh Clifford, 3rd Baron of Ugbrooke House, Devon.

Three chinese armorial services were commissioned for Hugh Clifford, 4th Baronet, through his mother's connections with the Duke of Norfolk. See Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol 1. Page 298.

Cup 11cm wide, saucer 14cm wide.

Excellent condition, short haircrack to bowl.

Tight glaze crack to back of saucer centre.

Some regilding to rims.

Ring well.
