English Armorial Crest Plate Cockerel BARON ELLENBOROUGH

Chamberlains Worcester plate, gilded "gadrooned edge".

Circa 1820. Well painted with central crest of a Cockerel, surmounted

by a Baron's coronet.

Made for BARON ELLENBOROUGH, Southam  House, Cheltenham,

Gloucester.

Probably Edward Law (1790-1871), 2nd Baron Ellenborough, GBC,PC

Governor General of India 1842-1844.

First Lord of the Admiralty 1846.

He advocated direct rule in India, and the plans 

went ahead under his successor on the Board of Control,

Lord Stanley, relieving the East India Company of its powers.

 

Perfect condtion, minor gold wear / regilding.

Measures approx. 8  Inches wide.
