English Duke Westminster Plate

English Duke Westminster Plate

A superb English porcelain plate, made for the

Duke of Westminster.

Late 19th Century, perfect condtion.

The Duke of Westminster,
Grosvenor family. When Sir Thomas Grosvenor married Mary Davies in 1677
her marriage dowry included 500 acres of West London.
These estates made the family one of the richest in England.

The service was most likely commissioned by the new Duke, Hugh Grosvenor in 1874,

after the title was created by Victoria the same year.

The factory pattern number falls between the dates 1873-1874.

The monogram closely matches a rich Minton service made to  resemble the Sevres
Cameo Service made for Catherine II of Russia.
