Pair Chamberlains Worcester Armorial Crest Plates GALTON HADZOR HOUSE

Elegant pair of Chamberlain's Worcester plates, with attractive cornflower blue borders. Central crest of an eagle for GALTON.  Factory mark dates to post 1840. John Howard Galton (1794-1862) was a Birmingham Banker and substantially updated Hadzor Hall, Droitwich, where he was born. He married Isabella Strutt.

Measure approx 10 inches wide. One with small chip to back  of rim. Some slight wear/crazing.

Blazon: On a mount vert, an eagle erm., looking at the sun in splendour, and resting the dexter claw on a fleur-de-lis gu. Motto: Gaudet Luce Videri. "Rejoices to be seen in the light".

 

His son, Samuel Galton leased Great Barr Hall frorm Joseph Scott from 1785 onwards, who's finances were in difficulty after overspending on the Hall.
